Something not working?
Latent is made by one developer, so mail gets read by the person who can actually fix the thing. A reply usually takes a couple of days.
What to include
A bug is much quicker to fix with a little context. Where you can, mention:
- Your Mac and macOS version (a MacBook Pro M3 on macOS 26.1, for example).
- The Latent version, shown in About Latent.
- Which model the task was using: Apple Intelligence, Ollama, LM Studio or Claude, and the model name if it's a local one.
- Whether the photos are on an internal disk or an external drive.
- What you expected to happen, and what happened instead.
- A screenshot, if it's something you can see. Please don't send your photos or your
_catalog/folder unless asked.
Things worth trying first
Latent says no model is available
Check the model the task is set to in Settings. For Apple Intelligence, make sure it's turned on in System Settings and has finished downloading. For Ollama or LM Studio, make sure the app is running and the model is loaded. Latent names the specific reason in its message, so start there.
A drive's photos have disappeared from the Library
The drive is probably disconnected or was ejected. Reconnect it and the library comes back as it was. The catalog lives on the drive itself, so nothing was lost.
A scan stopped part way
Start it again. Latent picks up where it left off: photos already cataloged are recognised by their fingerprint and skipped, and any captions that failed are retried.
Search doesn't find a photo I know is there
Search covers captions, tags, filenames, folder names and Apple Vision's labels. A photo that hasn't been captioned or analysed yet can only be found by name. Run a caption pass, or Analyze on This Mac, from the Scan pane.
Similar shots or search don't find a photo's twins
Both rely on Apple Vision's analysis. Photos cataloged before it existed need Analyze on This Mac, in the Scan pane, before they can be matched.
Feature requests
Genuinely welcome, and the same address works. Telling me what you were trying to do is more useful than proposing the fix: the underlying problem often has a better solution than the one that first comes to mind.
Privacy questions
The privacy policy covers what is stored, where it lives, and exactly what is sent when you choose a cloud model. Anything it doesn't answer, please ask.
